Hutch Ordinance Update [ Posted Tuesday May 1 2012, 9:31 am by Hutch Board ]###EMAILS CORRECTED FOR SELLERS AND BUSH#### Kansas Equality Coalition- Hutchinson Area Chapter Non-Discrimination Update The Hutchinson Human Relations Commission will be making a recommendation to the Hutchinson City Council on Tuesday May 15th at 9AM. The recommendation will be that the City Council amend its current Non-discrimination ordinances to include Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. FOX News and Glenn Beck have picked up on our local ordinance and made it a BIG STORY last week. I spoke with a member of the City staff who said their phones and emails have been inundated with messages- ALL of them were AGAINST the proposal since the story FOX ran and HEADLINED that if the proposed ordinance passed Churches will be REQUIRED to perform GAY MARRIAGES. Here is the link: http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/proposed-law-would-force-churches-to-host-gay-weddings.html We all know this is UNTRUE as Kansas has a Constitutional Ban against Same Sex marriage thanks to Jan Pauls who wrote the law in 2004 and was voted on by Kansans in 2005. We need to FILL THE COMMISSION CHAMBERS like we have never ever done it before. They need to know we haven’t rolled over or given up. I am asking that you do whatever is necessary to be present on May 15th at 8:45 AM…IT IS CRITICAL! The council will be voting on moving forward with the Human Relations Commission recommendation or letting our request die. We have worked so hard on this. Lots of time and energy have gone into this and whatever happens I want to thank all of you for your effort. We couldn’t have made it this far without your time and energy!. However, I must ask one more thing of you, I need you to call and email our local City council members and ask then to accept the recommendation of the Human Relations Commission on May 15th. Remind them that NO ORDINANCE exists and all the so called outrage in the National media lately was for NOTHING except to stir up opposition coming from persons who don’t even live in Hutchinson. Making Hutchinson look ridiculous. We VOTE and PAY TAXES in this community and live here because we choose to. Please contact the following City Council persons: Ron Sellers 3400 Thunderbird Hutchinson KS, 67502 620-662-8349 rons@hutchgov.com David Razo 114 W 12th Hutchinson KS 67501 620-662-8037 djrazo@wildflower.net Bob Bush 4904 Cottonwood Dr Hutchinson, KS 67502 620-664-6820 bobb@hutchgov.com Cindy Proett 515 E Sherman Hutchinson, KS 67501 620-662-5605 cindyp@hutchgov.com Dean Briggman 3718 Prairie Hill Hutchinson KS 67502 620-728-1285 deanb@hutchgov.com We don’t have deep pockets like the Kansas Family Policy Council who employs Robert Noland to do the work of Christ according to their press releases. We are a group of people who care about one another, who care about a community, who saw a need and got involved. Thank you for calling and emailing EVERY Council person. Bob Bush is the Council person we must convince. He being a BUDWEISER distributor, who has a 100% rating with the Human Rights Campaign, I hope mentioning that might make a difference. Mr. Bush also wants to eventually run for Mike O’neals Legislative seat according to insiders. He needs to be convinced that Republicans are actually behind several states same sex marriage laws that have recently happened. Republicans aren’t our enemy- Repubgelicals or Evanpublicans are..including Tea Party members. Hopefully Councilman Bush will take a Moderate position like Councilman Sellers who is a Republican. Briggs is definitely a Tea Party member and Razo is a follower- his problem with this ordinance will be his Catholic faith. |
